Greetings and welcome to the Boys Cross Country web page here at Spanish River High School. My name is Greg Mundie, this is my 16th year at Spanish River, I teach Biology and Integrated Science and this will be my third season as the boys Cross Country coach. I believe the most important aspect of my job as a running coach is not to produce a State Champion Team at all costs. Instead, to encourage as many young people, as possible in our community, to run. Secondly, to foster an understanding that this is an activity they can and should practice and compete in for the rest of their lives. Lastly, to allow them to experience the physical and mental benefits that can be achieved by a committed and dedicated athlete. The State Title is nothing more than recognizing a hard working group of runners, from one school, that has reached this level of running.

- All athletes must fill out COMPLETELY an eligibility packet and submit a “try-out” check for $10.00 made out to S.R.H.S. athletics. A second check for $60.00 made out to S.R.C.H. must also be submitted these funds go towards our umbrella athletic insurance policy. This check will be cashed only if student athlete stays with the through the first week of practice.
- After approximately a week of practice the runner must make two decisions. The first is whether the program fits and is compatible with his academic and family/social obligations. Secondly, is willing to COMMIT to 5 to 6 practices a week lasting 45 to 75 minutes for the remainder of the season.
- Our practices start at 3:00 and usually end between 4:00 to 4:15. If a runner is unable to attend a practice I request an Email to inform me of his absence and the reason for it.
- Our team is organized into three levels or tiers. The SILVER tier is occupied by our top seven fastest runners. The BLUE tier is comprised of the next seven fastest. The WHITE tier is made up of a dedicated and committed group of runners with one unified goal; to catch and replace a member of the Blue tier. Some meets we are limited to the number of participants.
- Parents you are a vital component of this program. Your runner needs you at our meets, even if he tells you otherwise. He needs your guidance to ensure proper nutrition and plenty of sleep during the season. I need you at times to help transport our runners to these meets and a beach /sand run once a week.
- Please Email me at your earliest convenience, with contact information and availability as a driver, so I can create an Email group that keeps us all in touch and informed. Flyers and schedules handed out after practices sometimes do not make it home. Correction! Frequently do not make it home.
- “Miles of Fun!" It’s going to be a great season and together we CAN reach that level of running.
